In the journal. "Your Health: Screen Time and Children: Maybe a Bit Isn't So Bad", talks about in 2011 a statement on media use for children under the age of 2 was written and published and meanwhile at the same time APPLE had just released its first-generation iPad. Technology, rapidly producing more and more and the use of children being involved with it has grew as well, 38% children under the age 2 had already used such device. A study they did with a 9-month-old, watched a teacher on screen teach to see if any brain activity would develop and no such activity had showed as compared when the teacher was physically there, brain activity had occurred. Another study with children between the age of 24-30 months old learned new words on screen rather than in person. They looked at reading a book to a child on a device wouldn't be any different as to reading to a child from a book. Again, parent to child interaction is in at play and that a device could be a role for interaction if used properly, for further teachings so the child can have a better understanding. Recent studies have shown that when engaging children in different activities versus screen play, one can be dominant learning, for example, when showing children how to do puzzles then when transferred to screen, most likely some kids dominated the actual puzzle but yet had difficulty on screen or vice versa. Another is background media, such as the television playing, plays a huge role in screen time.
Its reliable because it talks about the positive side of use of device and also the bad side of it. The strengths it provides are the studies they have done and what has overcome. The weakness, talked about if an iPad is worse than any other toy and no recent studies have been done but Dr. Christakis stated that it wouldn't be any worse from any toy out there.
I plan to use this article to seek more into those studies that were focused the age from 0-8 years of age and 24-30 months of age. To bring forth that proof to provide my inquiry question.
The comparison of this article is great because it has those studies that they did, and I think it will be great use for my argument essay.
