Blog#6 - Tattoo

Updated: Dec 7, 2021

STEP ONE:

People get tattoos for self-identity. It is who they are, they want people to see them as their true self on what they love the most or what they cherish or value in life, you will see that tattooed on them, like tells a story about their life. My feelings towards them are very prominent, I love tattoos especially when they have meaning to them or traditional tattoos, those are remarkably interesting to me. I have 3 tattoos, 2 at both wrist and one at my left forearm, the ones on my wrist are a Chinese symbol that mean sister, older sister and younger sister, my sister and I got matching tattoos. The one on my forearm well I say there is no meaning to it but eventually on my right forearm I do want to get dark wing. Like a good and bad wing and I tell myself it is to keep me balanced, we all have good and bad in us, and it all depends on how we take it.

STEP TWO:

When people see tattooed people, they get intimidated or scared. Everyone has their own opinions or differences when it comes to getting tattoos, they have their own meaning, I cannot personally speak for all and think they have the same feelings as me. Some may be judgmental towards tattoos for being bad for your body or the saying remember when you get old, how will it look? I believe the equal amounts of people getting tattoos is equal, the expression of their identity or telling a story. Then you have Natives, who traditionally get tattoos for purpose reasons.

STEP THREE:

People get tattoos to express themselves, to identify themselves of what they did, for instance military, you can see men or women have tattoos for when they were in the service to represent their branch services, then you see the best friends getting the matching tattoos that has meaning for their long lasting friendship, there are some that just get tattoos just because they like them, they tell a story or have meaning to them, but then you see others that go to the extreme of getting tattoos and they are tattooed from head to toe. The extreme to get their eyes tattooed to the inside of their mouth. Not only are tattoos a trend, but there are also piercings that have been interesting too. Piercings have been making numerous ways to pierce the body, the outcomes of piercings are interesting, not just getting the old-fashioned ear piercing, it went from getting your tongue, nose or lip pierced, and even to making dimples if you do not have any.

Class Discussion

In class we discussed our thoughts or expressions on how we felt towards tattoos and I got the outcome on how many of us have tattoos and who do not have tattoos. Everyone had their opinion on how they felt and everyone's opinion or comments were appropriate and swell. I like how one classmate on Zoom had pointed on, a regret in life of getting a tattoo, something maybe you are not proud of or some sort of embarrassment. Then, one classmate on Zoom claimed of a regret on her tattoo, it started out as s symbol of her liking but later she regretted and wanted to correct it but then it led to a bigger tattoo to what she just excepts and has her story to tell. Carl mentioned for the liking of tattoos that it can be about cultural meanings. Vinny, his thoughts on tattoos were not his preference, especially when he sees people that are covered from head to toe, he sees that it can be scary, which I can agree with him on that. There are some people I see on television that just go to the extreme with their tattoos and it just amazes me how much art work they would put that on their body.

My peer Juvelyn Hart, claims that she does not have any tattoos nor does she plan on getting a tattoo due to personal reasons. She states that she does have family and friends who have tattoos or are thinking about getting tattoos and she respects their wishes. In her response she has noticed when people get tattoos they experience negative feelings towards the tattoos and have them removed immediately.

I can agree with my classmate, when noticing people who experiencing resentment on getting a tattoo, I have no regrets of getting mine, my tattoos consist of a matching set that matches my sisters but I did see my sister go through some regret of getting a tattoo that she did not like though she did not get it removed she just got it covered. It's a thought process to get something permanent on your body and I respect Juvelyn's choice of not getting any tattoos, she is her own person and what she likes does not make me judge who she is, I am sure inside and out she is great humble person to be around by the liking of her photographer work and traveling, thank you Juvelyn Hart for sharing your thoughts and opinions on "Why do people get tattoos?"
